We are excited to offer the possibility to bundle the Chronos 2.1-HD, 4K12 and Q12 High-Speed Cameras from Kron Technologies together with our Camera Robot Systems LOKI and THOR.

For High-Speed shots requiring recording speeds of 1,000 frames per second, we believe this is a perfect match together with our motion control solutions.

The cameras size and weight fits perfectly with our smaller Camera Robot System LOKI if you don’t need the extra range and payload, but still want to achieve incredible results for slow motion product shots.

Of course you can also pair the range of Chronos’ cameras with our larger Camera Robot System THOR for extended range.

CHRONOS 4K12 BUNDLE MAIN FEATURES

After your high-speed video has been captured to the camera’s 64 or 128 GB memory buffer, you can trim down your video via the Playback screen on the built-in display, then quickly transfer footage to the camera’s internal NVMe SSD for safe keeping.

After your high-speed video has been captured to the camera’s 64 or 128 GB memory buffer, you can trim down your video via the Playback screen on the built-in display, then quickly transfer footage to an external USB-C SSD. Chronos supports up to 20 Gbps with USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 drives.

For the ultimate convenience, footage can also be transferred to a full-sized SD card. Quickly save H.264 or H.265 videos, then view them on virtually any computer as MPEG-4 videos without the need for further editing.

After your high-speed video has been captured to the camera’s 64 or 128 GB memory buffer, use a USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet adapter to save footage from the camera directly to a networked drive. The Chronos REST API also allows for automation and remote control to be tailored to your needs.

Wirelessly connect and control your Chronos via a Wi-Fi adapter. Mobile and desktop apps will be available in early February to allow for direct pairing with your Chronos for intuitive remote control and monitoring.

CHRONOS 4K12 RESOLUTIONS

The Chronos allows you to trade image resolution (i.e. the number of pixels in the image) for temporal resolution (i.e. the speed of the high-speed capture, or Frames Per Second).
The maximum bandwidth in any configuration will be equal to approximately 12 Gigapixels per second, or 12 billion pixels per second.
Change the camera’s native lens mount by removing four easily accessible screws. Adjust backfocus with the included shim kit. One lens mount is included, and additional mounts can be purchased as accessories.

Micro Four Thirds (MFT) Mount with Speed Booster®

Using the MFT mount on the Chronos camera we highly recommend combining that with a 0.71x Speed Booster® adapter to the lens mount of your choice.

The 0.71x magnification brings you back the full frame coverage with your full frame lens and also increase the maximum aperture by 1 stop. We also recommend using a positive lock mount system to securely tighten your lens, especially when combining that with a FIZ motor to avoid small movements of the lens while operating the FIZ system.

Speed Booster®

Speed Booster® by Caldwell Photographic is the original, award-winning optics that make lenses faster(1) , wider and sharper. The original Speed Booster has been superseded by Speed Booster ULTRA in September 2014, incorporating ultra-high index tantalum-based optical glass to achieve extraordinary optical performance with improved corner sharpness, less distortion and reduced vignetting.

The plenitude of imitators attests to the significance of this new invention, but even after 10 years the genuine Speed Booster remains unsurpassed in optical quality. The difference is the most pronounced when a lens with a large maximum aperture (e.g. f/1.2 or f/1.4) is used.

Significance on Videography

Speed Boosters are originally intended to adapt full-frame lenses to APS-C or smaller sensors. Still photographers who are already using full-frame digital cameras may find no use cases for them.

For videography, however, many full-frame mirrorless cameras have cropped video modes. This first happened in 2015 when filmmakers used Speed Booster ULTRA on Sony A7R Mark II (ILCE-7RM2) because the Super-35 crop mode of that camera offered superior 4K video over the full-frame pixel-binned video mode. As new full-frame cameras continue to attain higher resolutions, it becomes increasingly difficult to read all the extra pixels out of the sensor quickly enough at video frame rates. Pixel-binning lowers the image quality of the video compared to 1:1 readout or oversampling, but if on the other hand, the camera oversamples a full sensor readout, the processing power required may generate excessive heat that may limit recording time. The third option is to have a center crop, which can be mitigated by a Speed Booster, thereby getting the best of both worlds – high still photo resolution, high video quality and good thermal management. extraordinary optical performance with improved corner sharpness, less distortion and reduced vignetting.

The plenitude of imitators attests to the significance of this new invention, but even after 10 years the genuine Speed Booster remains unsurpassed in optical quality. The difference is the most pronounced when a lens with a large maximum aperture (e.g. f/1.2 or f/1.4) is used.
